You Put My Love On Top

Girls, throw your guy a bone once in a while. Yes, of course we expect our men to be romantic ;) But hey, it is a two way street, so here's some suggestions for showing him some love

1. If you catch him playing a video game, sit down beside him and ask him if you can play together the next round. Even if you're not into gaming, he'll appreciate the effort to participate in something he likes

2. If he's having a crazy week, help him out with some chores that are usually his like washing the dishes or taking out the trash, to help lighten his load

3. Suggest a fancy place for dinner and drinks, then surprise him by picking up the check

4. Surprise him with his favorite treat (cookies, pizza, etc) All guys love to eat.

5. When you're out together, make a point to touch his arm, rub his back, graze his leg- guys are very tactile so physical contact shows you're feeling close to him

6. Hand write a short, sweet note and leave it somewhere for him to find (like a sock drawer)

7. Suggest plans that involve his friends, it lets him know you want to get to know his group

8. Become addicted to a new show together, and make it a "date" to watch it together each week

9. Slip him a compliment every once in a while

10. Post-date, send him a quick text to thank him and let him know what a great time you had. It's sweet and lets him know you're still thinking about him

Baby it's you, you're the one I love, you're the one I needddd (channeling Beyonce today ;P )

I'm Finding it Hard to Believe, We're in Heaven

I can't believe it has been 11 years since that tragic day on September 11, 2001. I remember it like it was yesterday- where I was, how I felt, and the turmoil that lasted for months. But our memories of that day can't even compare to those who were directly affected, even to this day. I came across this story today, and I wanted to share.

Buffalo, N.Y. - It was only fitting that on their first date, Sean Rooney and Bev Eckert went to see the movie Camelot, because for 34 years their lives together had the feeling of a fairy tale.
They met when they were 16 at a high school dance.
"She thought he was cute and he waited until the last dance to ask her to dance and then asked for the telephone number," said Beverly's sister Karen.
The two went to Sean's prom together at Canisius High School, and then, well they were just always together, so much so that the two became one.
Scott Brown: "Did it become Sean and Bev- kind of one word?"
Cynthia Blest, Sean's sister: "Absolutely, more quickly said though- SeanandBev."
Karen Eckert: "It was one word, they were together, so compatible and adventuresome, curious about life and wow yeah they were together."
The only thing that Beverly thought could ruin what she and Sean had was marriage and so they waited for 14 years before deciding to have a ceremony in the backyard of her sister Susan's house in East Aurora.
And it was there where the girl from Sacred Heart and the boy from Canisius made official what had simply been a fact for a long time - that they would spend the rest of their lives together.
Susan Bourque, Beverly's sister: "They had family and very close friends. They had the food they wanted, they had the ceremony they wanted, it was exactly what they wanted.
Karen Eckert: "My memories- radiant- Beverly smiling, Sean smiling. She picked out a dress and it was just happiness everywhere."
And after the wedding, Sean and Beverly simply continued on together.
They had a zest for life, a love of family, and most of all, they had each other.
Cynthia Blest: "I think they were the happiest when they were together, I think the second happiest they were when they were together with family."
Sean was a gourmet cook, and an amazing handyman- he renovated the homes they lived in and even built some of their furniture from scratch.
The couple loved to travel - Italy, The Isle of Capri, Cape Cod, Morocco, and in every picture of them you can see how they just adored each other.
Susan Bourque: "They had an amazing relationship. It was always like they were dating still, it was always kind of like a fresh relationship."
They both had good jobs in the insurance industry and had a beautiful home in Connecticut.
And they gave back, volunteering at soup kitchens and donating to charities.
Susan Bourque: "I think they really appreciated how fortunate they were in many ways. They had jobs they enjoyed, they had the freedom to do things, the financial ability to do things, talent and family, good friends, I mean they had so much."
Karen Eckert: "She always felt their life was like Camelot."
In February of 2001, they celebrated Sean's 50th birthday.
And late that summer, Sean and Beverly had some eerily prophetic conversations.
Scott Brown: "I read someplace that one night they were together and Sean said 'you know what, if I die tomorrow I've led such a full and happy life, I'd have no regrets.'"
Karen Eckert: "Yeah it could have even been before the night before September 11th, they were sitting in their sun room and Beverly said it was a beautiful summer night. She said they had several conversations that summer that they had everything, it was almost like a drum roll of what was going to happen."
Two days later, Sean was at work in Tower Two at the World Trade Center when he called and left Beverly this message, four minutes after the first plane struck.
Sean Rooney, September 11th, 2001: "There's been an explosion in World Trade One. That's the other building. It looks like a plane struck it, um on the 90th floor and it's, it's horrible."
Four minutes later, a plane hit the second tower, in the floors below where Sean worked.
He tried to take the stairs to the roof of the building but was trapped.
With smoke filling the stairwell, he called his love.
Karen Eckert: "She was on the phone on the floor and she had the phone cradled to her while she was talking to him."
A few years later, Beverly recounted that last heart breaking conversation with Sean for National Public Radio.
Beverly Eckert from 2005: "He told me he was on the 105th floor and he'd been trying to find a way out. He told me he hadn't had any success and now the stairwell was full of smoke. I asked if it hurt for him to breathe and he paused for a moment and then said no. He loved me enough to lie.
"We stopped talking about escape routes and then we just started talking about all the happiness we shared during our lives together. I told him that I wanted to be there with him but he said no, no he wanted me to live a full life. And as the smoke got thicker he just kept whispering 'I love you over and over'. I just wanted to crawl through the phone lines to him and hold him one last time.
"Then I heard a sharp crack followed by the sound of an avalanche, it was the building beginning to collapse. I called his name into the phone over and over, but I just sat there pressing the phone to my heart."
Susan Bourque: "I think she probably would have traded places with him if she could have, their love was so deep and I don't think she could conceive of life without him at that point."
Scott Brown: "For Sean to say 'I want you to have a good life', what did that mean when he said that?"
Karen Eckert: "That was so Sean, so much like Sean, worried about her and worried about the effect of all, but 'have a good life' and she did that, she did that with a vengeance."
Beverly became one of the founders of the Voices of September 11th- the families' group that pressured the government to investigate how the attacks happened and to develop ways to prevent future attacks.
And as she thought about Sean's words to her about living a full life, Beverly decided one of the ways to do that was to give back and so she became involved with Habitat For Humanity.
Karen Eckert: "And the reason is it does a lot of good things, but also Sean and Beverly had three houses in their life, old houses and they would always redo them top to finish.
"Beverly worked along side of him, so she said what better way I can feel close to him doing Habitat, I can do something good. She used his tools. And it became something loving of her to give back to the world and she said 'I feel close to Sean when I'm doing that', beautiful."
In the years after Sean's death, their love affair continued.
Karen Eckert: "Sean never left her thoughts or her heart or anything. You could tell in the way that she carried on afterward and carried that love forward, it was just burning bright in her the whole time."
On what would have been Sean's 57th birthday, Beverly wrote him a letter. We had her sisters and Sean's read a part of it:
"Something I've come to realize over the past six and a half years Sean is that death has no power over our hearts. Neither yours, nor ours. I want you to know how much you are loved and remembered. You are with us still. All my love, all my life, Beverly."
One year later, on February 12th, 2009, Beverly was flying to Buffalo to celebrate what would have been Sean's 58th birthday, which included a scholarship dinner in his name at Canisius High School.
She was on flight 3407 that crashed in Clarence.
Karen Eckert: "It's almost like a movie script. The irony, the insult, to have her killed in a completely preventable plane crash when she had focused her wrath on the airline industry after 9/11. It's just unbelievable to us. Can you find solace now she doesn't have the pain, now they're together? I don't know, sometimes we think like that too to be honest with you. I don't know."
Scott Brown: "What do you think they're doing now together?"
Karen Eckert: "When I think of them together now I think of them smiling, Neither one ever left, you feel them. I can't explain it, you just feel them everywhere."
Susan Bourque: "My image of the two of them will always be of them sitting outside, maybe in some dappled sunlight with a glass of wine each. And having a good time."
Scott Brown: "Do you think what they had together even though it ended much too soon is something that a lot of people never have?"
Karen Eckert: "Oh absolutely, it's probably one of the most special relationships I've ever been witness to, and for 34 years they had it. And it's like, wow."
And so we end our fairly tale story as we began it.
"We just wanted a happily ever after like Camelot, and I think we did pretty well," said Beverly (in an interview after Sean died)

Come On Baby With Me, We're Gonna Fly Away

It's Sweet Story Sunday! Today's sweet story isn't about romantic love, but a different kind of love- the love of a mother and son, and of strangers reaching out to make a difference.

Taylor Swift wrote this song for a little boy named Ronan, who died of cancer at 4 years old. Swift co-wrote the song with the little boy’s mother, Maya Thompson, after reading one of her blog entries. Thompson has written many heartfelt and emotional posts on her blog Rockstar Ronan about her son and his battle with cancer. In early September, she wrote a post directed to Ronan. She wrote, "I told your Sparkly the other day, 'If Ronan had to die, you can make damn sure I am going to make something amazing come from it. He will change the face of childhood cancer.' I hate that it had to be you. But baby, just maybe, someday, another little boy or girl won't have to die from this disease because of the awareness you are bringing to it." All proceeds from the song will be donated to cancer charities.

Darling, You Look Wonderful Tonight

What girl doesn't love slow dancing with her guy? A slow dance can be a quick and easy way to add a burst of romance to the end of a date night, or at anytime for that matter. It can be ‘your song’ or a song that’s lyrics say just what you are feeling in that moment. Songs move us and inspire us. She is Love, and She is All I Need

It's been a rough day... here's a good reminder for everyone

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

Don't Look, Fate Can Only Find You

Sweet story Sunday! (Ahhh technically Monday, just a minute late) Just a little reminder that everything happens for a reason, and there is usually something good hidden in the bad

"Exactly 10 years ago today almost to the minute, I stopped at an intersection and a car rear ended me. The driver was a student at UF, just like me. He was cordial and apologetic. As we waited for the cops and the tow truck we chatted and started laughing together about all sorts of stuff. We exchanged numbers and the rest is history. We just celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary."

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

I've learned that it's often the little things that make a relationship. I've also learned that people change over time (usually for the better ;P) Here's an idea to keep up with your loved one so that you can continually get to know each other better and be aware of what the other likes, wants, and needs: A Favorite Things List! The “Favorite Things List” is a survey of sorts that acts as a cheat sheet when you’re looking for ideas for those special ‘just because’ gifts. Often as time goes on and you change, your favorite things change too. You can make this list whatever you want it to be, whether short or several pages long, silly or serious. To add to the fun, you can both sit down together when you are filling out the list, as often as you'd like whether it be once a year or once a month. It makes for great conversation! (Hey, that could be a whole date night in itself!)

Here is an example of a Long Version Favorite Things List
Here is an example of a Short Version Favorite Things List

But of course you can play around with it to make it your own!

Look At This Photograph, Every Time I Do It Makes Me Laugh

Ever wished you had more pictures of you and your other half? I have a great idea for either "just because", for decoration, or as a special gift :) Take a picture of you and your loved one during each season of the year, then frame them all in matching frames, unique frames, or a 4-way frame and display! Super simple yet super meaningful, and fun! Pictures are a great gift because they represent memories, and you can always enjoy looking back on them. If you are really nostalgic (like me ;p) you could even do this every year!

When It's Love You Give, Then In Love You Live

How my romantic planning service came to be...

I'm going to give most men the benefit of the doubt and say that they at least try to do romantic things for their girlfriends/wives...sometimes...and if they don't exactly execute it, they at least wish they could do romantic things. And for every girl that has had that "romantic" night that was a good attempt, but not exactly storybook material, you've probably thought to yourself "I should have just done this myself" or "I could have done this better". Well, I've thought the same, and then I thought that maybe I could throw all the guys out there a bone and help them out. The Romance Concierge takes on all aspects of planning a romantic evening- decorations, flowers, rose petals, bubble bath, even chocolate covered strawberries. In my experience with relationships, I've learned men like simple things. So I made my services as simple as possible by creating different "romance packages" with a variety of decorations and confections so that all men have to do is simply pick one :) For those men who are willing to test their creativeness (still with help of course ;) ) there are also add-ons that can be included with any package to spice it up a bit. After a package is chosen, that's where I come in. Your romantic dream becomes reality as I set up your hotel room/condo/bedroom to look just like you see in movies; what any woman would want, because I do it how I would want ;) I cater to all types of romantic events such as birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, Valentine's Day, surprise proposals, or just because you love them.  I know couples are busy- it's hard to even make time for each other period, let alone plan a whole romantic night. That's why I enjoy taking the stress off of you and planning your night so that all you have to do is enjoy with your loved one. It's a win-win, everyone is happy, and it's a piece of cake :)

Check out our website to plan your next romantic night, and don't forget to check out our promotions page!

I Wanna Share Your Horizons and See the Same Sunrises

Alright everyone, here's a super simple date idea- and get this- it covers 12 dates in one!

The basic idea is that you’re going to be giving your honey a little “Passport to Love” kit.  They’ll use this kit to go on a different date with you every month for the whole year. The idea is to “travel the world” together, visiting a different destination each month. You can choose to actually go out and visit different cities, sites, or attractions near you, OR bring the different destinations to the comfort of your own home. (No babysitter? No problem!) With a little creativity, you can turn your living room or bedroom into another country and pretend like you’re going off on a spontaneous, whirlwind getaway.

In this kit you’ll include:
1- A card (So they know what this is all about. Just print it out a tie it around everything)
2-travel itinerary (So they know which nights to reserve for you! Just print it out and fill in your departure date, time, & destination for each month)
3- A printable passport (So they can travel the world with you. Print it out, staple it together, and customize it with your honey’s pic and information)
4- Printable passport stamps (So you can record and remember all your travels! Print them out and tape them inside his passport each month as you visit different destinations.)
5- Printable airline tickets (Because that’s just fun. The online generator lets you totally customize it with your honey’s name, your chosen destination, and different airlines. You’ll want to make 12- one for each month!)

Next, choose your destinations, fill out your travel itinerary, create your airline tickets, then surprise your special someone with a year's worth of creative, fun dates! You'll both love having something to look forward to each month.

Here are some destination ideas for inspiration:
France
- Make an easy Parisian picnic with french bread, gourmet cheese, fruit, and sparkling cider.
- Play some French cafe accordion music (you can play music online for free)
- Learn some French phrases, after all- it is the language of love.
- Watch a movie about France or that takes place in France. How about Les Mis, French Kiss, or Forget Paris
- If you really want to go all out: speak in a French accent, wear a beret, do your hair in a French twist, or paint your nails with a French manicure- hee hee.
China
- Order out Chinese food or make your own. Leave the forks in the drawer and try chopsticks.
- Make some Chinese paper lanterns
- Try your hand at writing Chinese characters
- Play some oriental music
- Watch Mulan, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, or any Jackie Chan movie.
- Eat (or make) fortune cookies (If you put them in the microwave, they soften up and you can replace the papers with your own fortunes. Just fold them back up and hold until set again.)
India
- Forget chairs. Just throw some bright colored pillows on the floor.
- Turn out the lights, add candles, and Indian music for ambiance.
- Make Indian food or order out from a local Indian restaurant. Forget the utensils, eat with your hands.
- Bejewel each other with self-adhesive jewels, or get brave and apply Henna tattoos
- Watch a Bollywood movie or learn some Bollywood dance moves from YouTube.
- How about a magic carpet ride while you watch Aladdin? (hee hee) Or you can be his Genie and grant him 3 wishes.
Italy
- Make homemade pasta or pizza.
- Play some Italian music to set the mood (Andre Bocelli?) and speak in an Italian accent for fun.
- Get out some art supplies and channel your inner Michelangelo.
- For you “foreign film” how about: The Italian Job, Life is Beautiful, Under the Tuscan Sun, Roman Holiday, or Much Ado About Nothing.
- Enjoy some gelato.
- If you really want to go all out- go for a gondola ride. (I’m thinking blow-up raft in the swimming pool -lol)
Caribbean
- Go on a Caribbean cruise! To make your room like a cruise ship, fold a towel on the bed to make a swan. (They totally have tutorials online)
- Check your local dollar store for tropical decorations like tiki pictures, drink umbrellas, or grass skirts.
- Get dressed in your bathing suit, cover-up, and sunglasses like you’re on a real cruise.
- Play some island music. Try Kokomo by the Beach Boys or Escape (The Pina Coloda Song) by Rupert Holmes.
- Make an Island-themed dinner- like Hawaiian chicken with pina colodas or strawberry daiquiris.
- Limbo!
- Watch Pirates of the Carribbean.
- You can even put blue food coloring and a beach ball in the bathtub.
Greece
- Toga Party anyone?
- Cook some authentic Greek food. How about moussaka and baklava (or keep it simple with pita pizzas)
- Listen to Greek music and dance! (And if you really want to- break some old, glass dishes that you don’t care about. Opa! tee hee.)
- Watch “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”
Jamaica
-Give your spouse a note- “Jamaican me crazy- yah mon!” (Oooh- isn’t there a Jamaican me crazy Ben & Jerry’s ice cream??)
- Cook some Jamaican food- jerk chicken or boiled banana anyone?
- Turn into a Jamaican online radio station and listen to some reggae and calypso music.
- Put on an island shirt and do some island dancing!
- Play with hacki-sacks
- Watch “Cool Runnings”
Russia
- Make some Russian food. Try Borsch or Beef Stroganoff
- Forget the vodka, take shots of rootbeer
- Play Russian roulette with a cap gun. Or dress as mobsters. hee hee.
- Listen to some Russian music online and try to dance the Preesyadka (the Russian knee-bending, kick dance)
- Watch Anastasia or The Hunt for Red October
- Watch the Russian Ballet or Opera on YouTube
Germany
(perfect for an October date)
- Host your own Oktoberfest for two- serve bratwurst with mustard and sauerkraut
- Instead of beer and ale, serve mugs of rootbeer or gingerale
- For dessert, how about apple strudel?
- Better yet- host your own ChOktoberfest and serve German chocolate!!
- Listen to German music on Pandora and watch a German movie.
Egypt
- Write each other notes in hieroglyphics- switch and decode
- Create an archaeological dig site for your spouse using a sandbox and have them search for buried treasure (a love note or gift)
- Play Egyptian music (and walk like an Egyptian.) ;)
- Make some Egyptian food: Chicken kebabs, lamb, fried zucchini, hummus and pita bread, or baklava
- Watch “The Mummy”
- If you want to go all out- dress up like Cleopatra and Ra (God of the Sun)
Ireland
(perfect for a March date)
- Turn your dining room into an Irish Pub (Lucky Charms for dessert? They’re magically delicious!)
- Dress in green
- Speak in an Irish accent
- Make a leprechaun trap
- Watch an Irish movie (Or how about “Leap Year?” That movie has some gorgeous scenes of Ireland.)
England
- Listen to some Beatles CDs
- Turn your dining room into an English Pub with fish and chips
- Or go more posh and serve crumpets and tea with a fancy hat
- Speak in a British accent (Jolly Good! Cheerio!)
- Watch a supporting event from the UK
- Play some croquet.
- Watch a movie that takes place in England or one with English actors. Sherlock Holmes or a good BBC movie.
Africa
- Make an African dinner (Sosaties, plantains, coconut milk, mango drinks, etc.)
- Gather all the plants in the house into one area to make an African jungle (Or just use your backyard and light tiki torches.) If you want add animals- stuffed animals.
- Play some African music in the background
- Dress us like you’re ready for a safari (think khaki shorts, binoculars, etc.)
- Make African drums or tribal masks together, or “decorate” each other with tribal face paint.
- Watch Out of Africa, I Dreamed of Africa, To Walk With Lions, or even Madagascar.

Have fun with this! Happy travels! ;)

Clouds Are Shrouding Us in Moments Unforgettable

Sorry it's been a few days since my last post, it has been an extremely busy week. But, what better day to return than Sweet Story Sunday ;) I love that such short and simple stories can show such a large amount of love, and since I've been MIA for a few days, I've decided to share more than one :)

"Today, my 75-year-old grandpa who has been blind from cataracts for almost 15 years said to me, 'Your grandma is just the most beautiful thing, isn’t she?' I paused for a second and said, 'Yes she is. I bet you miss seeing that beauty on a daily basis.' 'Sweety,' my grandpa said, 'I still see her beauty every day. In fact, I see it more now than I used to when we were young.'

"Today, I walked my daughter down the aisle. Ten years ago I pulled a 14 year old boy out of his mom’s fire-engulfed SUV after a serious accident. Doctors initially said he would never walk again. My daughter came with me several times to visit him at the hospital. Then she started going on her own. Today, seeing him defy the odds and smile widely, standing on his own two feet at the altar as he placed a ring on my daughter’s finger."

"I was sitting on a park bench today eating a sandwich for lunch when an elderly couple pulled their car up under a nearby oak tree. They rolled down the windows and turned up some jazz music on the radio. Then the man got out of the car, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door for the woman, took her hand and helped her out of her seat, guided her about ten feet away from the car, and they slow danced for the next half hour under the oak tree."

"I was driving home with my father when he suddenly made a u-turn and said, 'I forgot to get your mother a bouquet of flowers. I’ll pick up one from the florist at the corner down here. It’ll only take a second.' 'What’s so special about today that you have to buy her flowers?' I asked. 'There’s nothing specifically special about today,' my father said. 'Every day is special. Your mother loves flowers. They put a smile on her face.”

Love is All You Need

I've decided that every Sunday I will post a short sweet story about love, to hopefully inspire you and put a smile on your face :)

"Today, as my 91-year-old grandfather (a military doctor, war hero, and successful business owner) rested in his hospital bed, I asked him what his greatest life accomplishment was. He turned around, grabbed my grandmother’s hand, looked her in the eyes, and said, “Growing old with you.”

What is Love?

Have you ever noticed that sometimes kids have more wisdom than you would expect? They are always brutally honest, and I think their innocence almost makes them smarter, because their thoughts aren't clouded by doubt and worry and stress. Here are some answers children gave when they were asked "What is love?". I think these are some of the simplest, yet best descriptions of what love is, and they make me smile :)

And I Don't Believe in Time

I was thinking today about how no one ever has time these days..no one has time to do anything, no one can make time for each other, everyone is always too busy. I think that is one of the major problems in relationships these days too...because everyone is so busy...but in a relationship you still need quality time with each other. Like anything, as much effort as you put in is as much as you're going to get out of it. In a relationship, sometimes you have to MAKE time. It's possible. You have to remember that making time for each other doesn't ALWAYS mean you're going on a lavish date....sometimes it means folding laundry together, or cooking dinner, or even running errands together. Anyone can have fun together doing a fun activity, but it really says something when you can enjoy each other's company doing something as simple as grocery shopping together. Quality over quantity. If your main goal is just to spend time together, does it really matter what you're doing? ;)

Oh, You Make Me Smile

Sometimes the best way to feel love is to spread love. Any act of kindness will make you feel good, but here are some ideas of random acts of kindness that will brighten people's days; and yours :)

1. Leave change at a vending machine

2. Hide dollar bills in the toy section of the dollar store

3. Deliver homemade sweets to your local firestation, police station, library, etc.

4. Deliver flowers to a local hospital or senior center. Ask the desk clerk which patients she thinks need cheering up the most

5. Leave your mailman homemade sweets or a small gift

6. Collect some coupons and leave them at their places of use for others to find

7. Go through a drive-thru and tell the cashier you want to pay for the people's order behind you

8. Write a card to a friend or family member just to remind them how much they're loved

9. Compliment someone

10. Look at people in the eye, and smile :)

Spread the love,
